Apollo : The Epic Journey to the Moon

Apollo : The Epic Journey to the Moon
This title is definitely one of the best books written about Apollo in recent years. An exuberantly visual treatment of the Saturn/Apollo combination and its specific missions, the work also rues the fact that the Apollo program was rushed to meet JFK's deadline, and didn't fully realize the dreams of Werner von Braun and other 1950s space dreamers whose visions were captured in the paintings of Chesley Bonestell.

Space Shuttle: The First 20 Years

Space Shuttle: The First 20 Years
The Astronauts' Experiences in Their Own Words

An unprecedented look at the Space Shuttle experience, as told by the astronauts themselves. Last year the editors of Air & Space/Smithsonian magazine wrote all of the people who have flown on the Space Shuttle since 1981 with a simple request: Tell us your best stories. The astronauts' unprecedented and candid responses reveal the drama of the Shuttle experience, from launch to landing, like no other book has to date.

A Man on the Moon : The Voyages of the Apollo Astronauts
A decade in the making, this book is based on hundreds of hours of in-depth interviews with each of the twenty-four moon voyagers, as well as those who contributed their brain power, training and teamwork on Earth. In his preface Chaikin writes, "We touched the face of another world and became a people without limits."

From the Earth to the Moon

From the Earth to the Moon - DVD & VHS (NTSC)
Originally broadcast in April and May of 1998, the epic miniseries From the Earth to the Moon was HBO's most expensive production to date, with a budget of $68 million. Hosted by executive producer Tom Hanks, the miniseries tackles the daunting challenge of chronicling the entire history of NASA's Apollo space program from 1961 to 1972.

Flight : My Life in Mission Control

Flight : My Life in Mission Control
On July 20, 1969, near the end of a great decade of near-space exploration, a small craft called Eagle landed on the moon's surface. As anyone who watched the televised broadcast of the landing might recall, the astronauts aboard Eagle were guided to their objective by a capable ground crew headed by Chris Kraft, whom his colleagues had long called "Flight."
