Understanding The Difference Between An Electric Cable Hoist And An Electric Chain Hoist

Electric hoists come in two basic models: those that use wire or cable and those that use chain. By learning about each type of hoist and understanding the differences between the two you can make a better-informed decision about which style is best or your company.

One of the primary differences between an electric cable hoist and an electric chain hoist is the amount of weight that they are able to lift. Typically, cable hoists are capable of handling much heavier loads than chain hoists. They both work equally well for lighter loads. However, if you plan on doing extremely heavy lifting, you will most likely want to choose a wire or cable hoist.

The overall design of the hoists themselves is also different. With a chain hoist, the chain is pulled through the sprockets of the gears and collected in a special container (recipiente especial). With a cable hoist, on the other hand, the cable is neatly wound around a drum. In most cases, chain hoists are much more compact and are easier to move from one place to another. Cable hoists, however, tend to be best for permanent installations where there is plenty of room for the drum and other components of the unit.

In terms of the design of the motor and controls, both types of hoists are quite similar. Of course, there are minor differences in how each hoist is operated. For the most part, however, there is not a lot of difference in the actual mechanics of how the hoists work. Instead, the primary differences have to do with the overall weight of the load that each type of hoist is capable of lifting as well as the way that the chain or cable is collected and stored as the hoist is raised or lowered.

One important consideration is the price of the hoists (precio de polipastos). Most of the time, cable hoists tend to be far more expensive than their chain counterparts. This is largely due to the fact that the drums that are used to wind the cable are quite expensive to produce. As a result, the overall cost of the hoists is higher.

Based on all of this information, it should be easy for you to determine what type of hoist you need for your business. If you primarily do lightweight lifting, are working with a somewhat limited budget, and don’t have a lot of room to permanently install equipment, a chain hoist is probably the best bet. On the other hand, if you lift extremely heavy loads, don’t mind spending extra money, and have plenty of room to permanently install a large hoist in your facility, you may want to opt for a cable hoist instead.

If you are still having trouble deciding which type of hoist is right for you, you may want to reach out directly to a  manufacturer. Based on the industry that you are in and the weight of the loads that you are lifting, they should be able to make recommendations as to which type of hoist will best serve your needs.
